Benny D’z Hosts Gong Master Kenny Kolter! May 18
Musician and sound therapist Kenny Kolter approaches gong meditation both as a performing artist and as a healer.
With a subtle rhythmic quality, Kolter teases out a vast array of tones, harmonics and shimmering nuances that reside within the instruments. The result is that these sonic, mystical characteristics provide a vehicle for quieting the mind and body. The physical sound and vibration of the gong is a powerful, soothing, invigorating, relaxing …and a healing experience. He brings that experience to audiences around the world and very soon to Northeast Wisconsin.
On Monday, May 18 he travels to Door County to perform at Benny D’z in Sturgeon Bay from 6:30 – 8 pm.
His goal is to be a sound bridge between the energy and spirit that lie within the gong and to sonically draw out or tune into the energy and spirit that resides in all of us. Audience members are encouraged to lie down on a blanket or yoga mat, use bolsters or pillows as you wish and then allow the forthcoming sounds wash over you as Kenny Kolter takes you on a deep inward journey. He creates beautifully interwoven tapestries of sound and rhythm that allow you to relax into new found areas of your own awareness.
The healing power of Gongs and Himalayan Sound Massage Bowls derives from a natural phenomenon known as entrainment – synchronizing the body to a certain sound. It occurs whenever the powerful vibrations of one object actually change the less powerful vibrations of another object. Entrainment was first discovered in 1665 by Dutch scientist Christian Huygens. He set up a room full of pendulum clocks with their pendulums swinging at slightly different times. When he returned to the room the next day, he found the sway of the pendulums had all synchronized.
As gongs and bowls are sounded, the powerful rhythmic vibrations resonate throughout the body. The sound of these harmonic vibrations stimulates the alpha and theta brain waves associated with deep meditative and peaceful states that are highly conducive to healing. They also slow down the heart and respiratory rate, creating a therapeutic effect upon mind and body. When the brain waves and body are synchronized, balance can be restored and stress released.
